Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has revealed his season has been hampered by off-field issues and an ankle injury he suffered against Manchester United.

The 24-year-old midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough Premier League campaign last season, scoring 19 goals as City won a fourth successive top-flight title.
He also won the สมัครสมาชิก UFABET วันนี้ รับเครดิตฟรีทุกวัน Football Writers’ Association Player of the Season and Footballer of the Year awards, as well as being named in the PFA Team of the Year.
Foden started all seven games and helped England reach the Euro 2020 final in July, where they lost to Spain.
But he has managed just 10 goals in all competitions this season. And has failed to find the net in 19 games for club and country dating back to January.
Foden has reveal he damage ankle ligaments after tackle by Manchester United midfielder Casemiro during a goalless derby on April 6 and miss the next two games but return to training relatively quickly.
Asked to assess his season, Foden said: “It’s been tough. It took me a while to recover in training. I have to look after it. It’s been a frustrating season for me.”
“I know everything is okay, I can play better on the pitch. Sometimes things happen and you have to deal with it and move on. Unfortunately, I had a difficult season.”
“Now it’s just a matter of improving and getting back to where I’m at. I know my standards and what I can do. I’m looking forward to coming back.”
Foden was subjected to abusive abuse about his mother during the game at Old Trafford, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola branding United fans “classless”.
In January, Foden told the Manchester Evening News he felt physically and mentally drained.
“I’ve had a lot of things going on off the pitch mentally, which is one of them. Sometimes there are bigger things in life than football. I’ve had a bit of a struggle this season,” Foden added.
“Hopefully next year I can come to my senses and get back to where I was last season because I know what I can do and what quality I have.”
